Britain has upped the ante by raising the direct aid it is sending for
support and recovery of the tsunami victims in South-East Asia to
£50,000,000, (that's $85,000,000).
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth has also made a personal donation to the
appeal.
The figure has not been officially announced but is believed to be in the
region of £10,000,000 ($16,000,000). The house of Turm und Taxis is
believed
to have pledged a similar amount.
The British public appeals have raised £25,000,000 ($40,000,000); a
million pounds an hour in the last 24 hours with no sign of the flow of
cash slowing.
So far, America's contribution amounts to .023% of the amount they have
spent on the Iraq war to date.
Be glad we're contributing anything AT ALL, Liarhammer. Now crawl back
under your glacier, Eurotwit.
